On the evening of 19 November, the Society of Acoustics (Singapore) successfully organised two back-to-back technical seminars, bringing together professionals, researchers, and industry partners for an enriching session of insightful learning and meaningful exchange.
We were honoured to have Ms. Punyakorn Sourachai (Geonoise Thailand) and Dr. Yung Boon Chong (Alvin) (National University of Singapore) as our distinguished speakers for the evening.
Seminar 1: Comparative Review of Noise Impact Assessment Methods: A Study of British and Southeast Asia Guidelines

Ms. Sourachai presented a comparative study of noise impact assessment methods across major British and Southeast Asian guidelines. Her clear and structured analysis provided participants with a deeper understanding of methodological differences, regulatory considerations, and practical implications for environmental noise management in diverse regional contexts.
Seminar 2: Bridging the Gap Between Laboratory-Scale Ventilated Metamaterials and Practical Noise Control Solutions

Dr. Chong delivered an engaging and forward-looking talk on ventilated acoustic metamaterials, shedding light on their design principles, underlying physics, and practical applications in real-world noise control. His presentation offered fresh perspectives on how next-generation materials can enable both airflow and effective sound attenuation—an area of growing relevance in sustainable building design.
The evening concluded with a warm and lively networking dinner, where everyone continued their conversations, strengthened professional ties, and explored opportunities for future collaboration. It was a meaningful way to wrap up a productive and engaging event.

The Society extends our heartfelt appreciation to Dr. Chong and Ms. Sourachai for their time, expertise, and valuable contributions to our seminar series. We also thank all participants for joining us and making the evening a success!
