Membership Grades

The Society of Acoustics (Singapore) (the "Society") offers the following membership grades:

  • Honorary Fellow / Fellow (S$70/year)

  • Member (S$50/year)

  • Associate Member (S$30/year)

  • Student Member (S$15/year)

  • Corporate Member​ (S$200/year)

  • Emeritus Status (S$0/year)

 

Honorary Fellow

This prestigious distinction is reserved for members who have made exceptional contributions to the advancement of acoustics and/or significantly furthered the growth and impact of the Society. Candidates must also meet the eligibility requirements for the grade of Fellow. The title of Honorary Fellow is conferred solely through nomination by the Committee and is subject to the nominee's acceptance.

Fellow

Every individual who is applying for or transferring to the grade of Fellow must meet the following requirements:

  1. Is aged 35 or older.

  2. Is currently at the Member grade.

  3. Has at least 7 years of work experience related to acoustics or its applications, as deemed satisfactory by the Committee.

  4. Has made a significant contribution to the field of acoustics or the acoustics profession, as deemed satisfactory by the Committee.

Member

Every individual who is applying for or transferring to the grade of Member must meet the following requirements:

  1. Is aged 25 or older.

  2. Has obtained formal qualification at an accredited polytechnic, university, or other institutes of higher learning.

  3. Has at least 3 years of work experience related to acoustics or its applications, as deemed satisfactory by the Committee.

Associate Member

Every individual who is applying for or transferring to the grade of Associate Member must meet the following requirements:

  1. Is aged 18 or older.

  2. Has obtained formal qualification at an accredited technical institute, polytechnic, university, or other institutes of higher learning.

  3. Is interested in the field of acoustics or engaged in acoustics-related work/activities.

Associate Members shall not remain in this membership class if they fulfil the requirements for the class of Member and above.​

Student Member

To be eligible, every individual must meet the following requirements:

  1. Is aged 16 or older.

  2. Is enrolled (half-time or full-time) in an accredited technical institute, polytechnic, university, or other institutes of higher learning.

  3. Is interested in the field of acoustics.

Student Members shall not remain in this membership class if they fulfil the requirements for the class of Associate Member and above.​

Corporate Member

The grade of Corporate Member is open to companies engaged in acoustics-related work, including acoustic consulting firms, acoustical contractors, suppliers, and manufacturers of acoustical materials and instruments. This membership provides businesses with industry recognition, networking opportunities, and professional development benefits. Each Corporate Membership allows up to two employees to be designated under the membership, with the option to add additional members based on individual membership grades, as outlined above.

Emeritus Status

Fellows, Members, and Associate Members of the Society are eligible for the Emeritus status if they meet the following requirements:

  1. Is aged 65 or older.

  2. Is not working for more than 20 hours per week.

  3. Holds a membership with the Society for at least 20 consecutive years.

With Emeritus status, members are exempt from paying membership fees.​
