About Us

The Society of Acoustics (Singapore) was founded in 1991 through the vision and leadership of Dr. Gan Woon Siong, who served as its Founding President. Recognizing the growing importance of acoustics in science, engineering, and daily life, Dr. Gan established the Society as a unifying platform for professionals, researchers, and practitioners in the field. His pioneering efforts laid the foundation for a vibrant acoustics community in Singapore, fostering collaboration across institutes, commercial companies, and public agencies.

In recognition of his seminal contributions, Dr. Gan was conferred the title of Emeritus after stepping down in August 2024.

As the premier acoustical society in Singapore, the Society has actively organized a wide range of initiatives over the years, including technical workshops, seminars, and conferences, to promote knowledge exchange and professional development.

Beyond Singapore, the Society works closely with other national acoustical societies to foster regional cooperation. A key milestone in these efforts was the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding with the Korean Society for Noise and Vibration Engineering, symbolizing the Society's commitment to international collaboration in acoustics and noise control.
